La Tzoumaz (also referred to as Les Mayens des Riddes) is a ski resort in the Swiss Alps, in the canton of Valais. Named after the word "tzoumer", meaning, in the old dialect of the Valais, taking a break. Located on the north side of Verbier the resort has splendid views over the Rhone valley.
La Tzoumaz is part of the "4 Vallées" ski area, which consists of various ski resorts, including Verbier, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, La Tzoumaz, and Thyon. As such it has direct access to over 410 km of runs. There are pristine snow conditions on the sector’s northern side, while the pistes on the sunny southern side offer a breathtaking view of Verbier resort. For even more fun, you can have a go at freestyle skiing on the Audi quattro funslope or tear down the longest sledge run in French-speaking Switzerland, between Savoleyres and La Tzoumaz. More advanced skiers can perfect their slalom technique at the two competition stadiums. You can also try out the region’s culinary specialities at one of several high-altitude restaurants.
In winter you can also enjoy a natural ice rink, a heated swimming pool and the longest sledge run in Western Switzerland (at 10 kilometres) which starts at the summit of the station (2,354m).
In summer, La Tzoumaz resort offers many activities such as mountain biking, hiking and daily activities for children. The Verbier-La Tzoumaz Bike Park had 8 separate downhill tracks. The "maison de la Forêt" has exhibitions of local wildlife and a popular cafe serving local produce. It’s also the beginning of the trail of the senses where you can discover nature with the Quiz of the 5 senses using your sight, touch, hearing, smell and taste. Hikers can also discover the "bisses" and notably the bisse of Saxon. The small water channels have run through Valais since the middle ages bringing water from high in the mountains to the pastures below.
